Roach Howard Partners with Safeco Insurance Foundation to Award Local Community Hero
Release Date: 12/22/2008
DALLAS – Suzanne Cobb, Guardianship & Money Management Director of The Senior Source, a Dallas-based nonprofit dedicated to improving the quality of life of older adults, is a recipient of the 2008 Safeco Agent Giving Program’s Community Hero Award.
The Community Hero Awards, which include a $15,000 grant made to the recipient’s nonprofit, are determined based on nominations from local insurance agents. Dot Hedman, CPCU, Senior Vice President of Roach Howard Smith & Barton, nominated Cobb for the award based on her dedication and fierce advocacy for the elderly of greater Dallas.
“I met Suzanne many years ago when she had a successful career in claims management,” says Hedman. “I was impressed when she decided to leave the corporate sector for a cause she was truly passionate about and I am genuinely inspired by the tremendous impact Suzanne has made in the greater Dallas community for older citizens. When she realized there was a significant need for guardianship services in Texas, she worked tirelessly to expand the Dallas program in response to the growing population of seniors in the community. Today, this program has grown to more than four times its original size. That’s just one of many reasons why I chose to nominate Suzanne Cobb for Safeco’s Community Hero Award.”
“On behalf of the Safeco Insurance Foundation, I’m pleased to be able to support such a worthy cause,” says Myrna Estrada, North Texas Regional Manager of Safeco. “We commend the many efforts of Suzanne and everyone at The Senior Source toward improving the quality of life of senior citizens in our community.”
The population of senior citizens in greater Dallas is steadily rising. With that population increase comes an increased need for the advocacy of older adults. “It’s so important that our seniors have the resources necessary to live a comfortable, meaningful life, says Cobb. “Whether it’s caregiver support, money management advice or guardianship protection, seniors in Dallas should always be able to receive the help they need from a reliable, reputable resource. I’m honored to be a recipient of this award and so thankful to Dot and everyone at the Safeco Insurance Foundation. It’s generosity such as theirs that allow The Senior Source to continue providing resources to vulnerable seniors in our community.”
