ID Theft through Hotels on the Rise

Do you use your Debit Card when checking in to Hotels? Last month the FTC sued the Wyndham Hotel Group, which manages over 7,000 hotels under 12 brand names, for not adequately protecting their clients’ financial information.

Wyndham has experienced 3 major breaches in the past 2 years resulting in the theft of hundreds of thousands of guests’ credit card information.

This is just another example of why you need to always use a credit card, not a debit card, when checking into a hotel. If a cyber thief has access to your debit card, your checking account as well as other linked accounts can be instantly drained.

Experts claim hotels and gas stations are the places we are most likely to have our credit card information stolen.
